Diabetes occurs due to the insufficient production of  insulin by the pancreas or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin that is being produced.and if left untreated,it causes Heart disease ,stroke, foot ulcer and damages to the eyes.etc.

A PANCREAS is the organ that sits behind the stomach which releases the hormones into the digestive system.it is about 6 inches and sits across the back of the abdomen behind the stomach.its head is on the right side of the abdomen that is connected to the duodenum which plays an important role by converting the food we eat into smaller particles for the cells of the body.the pancreas has two main functions, namely, the exocrine function that aid in digestion and the endocrine function which regulates blood sugar.
Why INSULIN is a hormone that controls the amount of sugar in your body.

GESTATIONAL DIABETES
It is a temporary diseases associated with Pregnancy usually occurs after giving birth to a baby.
TREATMENT
In the year 1920s before the isolation of insulin, most patients died within a short time after onset. And the untreated ones leads to the accumulation of ketones and acid in the blood.

IMPORTANCE OF GLUCOSE(SUGAR)
Glucose gives energy to the cells that makes up the muscles and other tissues.
It comes from 2 major source, namely food and liver.
Sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream, where it enters cells with the help of insulin, whereas, your liver stores and makes glucose.and when your glucose levels becomes low,the liver now breaks down the stored glycogen into glucose,so as to keep your sugar level normal.
