Anxiety can best be defined as an intense,excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situation.such as fast heart rate,sweating and feeling of tiredness.

Anxiety  can also be defined as an emotion characterised by feeling of tension,worried thought and physical changes like increased blood pressure,according to the American psychological Association(APA).
According to Noah Clyman,a licensed clinical social worker and director of NYC cognitive therapy,a private psychotherapy practice in New York City,US said,"the biggest misconception about anxiety is that it's to be feared and avoided at all costs".

But if your feelings of anxiety are plentiful,interfering in your daily routine and lasted for more than six months,then you are likely to experience what we called an anxiety disorder.

What are anxiety disorders?

Anxiety is a mental disorder characterised by feeling of worry or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United states(US), affecting 40 million adults or 18.1% of its population every year.they are highly treatable,where as,only 36.9% of those suffering received treatment.and according to world health organisation(WHO),an estimated 3.6 percent of the world's population are suffering from anxiety disorder.



Causes of anxiety disorder

The cause of anxiety disorders is multifactorial and may involve what we called genetics,environmental,brain structure,, environmental disorder,medical factors

Genetic disorder
It is defined as an inherited medical condition caused by a DNA abnormality.
It may be hereditary,meaning people who have family members with an anxiety disorder are more likely to experience one themselves.in other ways,it may be caused by New mutations or changes to the DNA.an in such case,it may be passed down if it occurs in the germline.

Environmental factors
Element in the environment around an individual or stress from a personal relationship,job,school,work,family issues or financial difficulties may contribute greatly to anxiety disorder

Chemical imbalance in the brain
Psychologist and neutrologist defined it as misalignments of hormones and electrical signals in the brain.it is a result of a certain Style of behaviour,but is not caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that requires medication to fix.but since the late 1980s,we were told that anxiety disorder and many other mental illness were caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.yet,the chemical imbalance notion was never proven.it had always been hypothetical.the theory of chemical imbalance was finally put to rest by dr.ronald pies,the editor in chief emeritus of the psychiatric times in 2011,shortly after pharmaceutical companies admitted the chemical imbalance theory was to be used as a metaphor and not to be real.so anxiety disorder is not caused by a chemical disorder in the brain.

Medical factors
Medical conditions such as,side effects of medication,Heart disease,stress from serious underlying medical condition that may not directly trigger the changes seen in anxiety disorder but might be causing significant lifestyle adjustment,pain or restricted movement.or to simply put,it may be a side effect of an underlying endocrine disease that causes nervous system hyperactivity,such as pheochromocytoma or hyperthyroidism.

Use of illicit substances
Substance induced anxiety disorder is nervousness,restlessness or panic,caused by taking a drug or stoping a drug.
A person may respond to stress at Work either by talking in illicit substances or by drinking alcohol,i increasing anxiety levels and the risks of further complications.it commonly occurs during the acute withdrawal phase of alcohol and can persist for up to 2 years as part of a post acute withdrawal syndrome in about a quarter of people recovering from alcoholism.
types of anxiety disorder 

panic attacks
panic attacks is when someone has a little attacks of intense terror and apprehension,normally marked by palpitations(strong and irregular heartbeat), trembling,chest pain,nusea,confusion,shaking or hard breathing.normally people with panic attacks may be unable to perform simple task perfectly because of fear.
Duration:a few minutes to 10 minutes,but rarely last longer than 30 minutes.

phobia

if you has an intense and irrational fear of things not being dangerous at the moment,know that you have a phobia.which gives rise to panic,fear,unexplained shaking,increase heart rate,shortness of breath.which goes beyond what's appropriate and the affected person goes an extremely measure to avoid the situation or objects,to a degree greater than the actual danger being posed.and if the feared object or situation cannot be avoided,the affected person start experiencing significant distress which may occur fainting. The most common are fear of Spider,driving in a high way,blood,snake and height.an occasionally,they are triggered by the negative flashback with the objects or situations.it affect about 6-8% of people in the western world and 2-4% people in Asia,africa and Latin American in a year.
Duration:6 months


there are other types of phobia such as social phobia and agoraphobia.

SOCIAL PHOBIA:is excessive fear of being embarrassed or being humiliated in social situation's,which leads to significant avoidance behaviours.

AGORAPHOBIA: people with this disease have an irrational fear of entering open or crowded places or of leaving one's own home or place and situations that might cause panic,helplessness or embarrassment.


post traumatic stress disorder(ptsd) 
if you have a pstd,you may feel afraid or stressed,whereas their is actually no danger presently.when being afraid,your body starts experiencing different changes that makes you ready to protect your self against upcoming danger.PTSD was once an anxiety disorder but later now moved to trauma and sressor related disorder in DSM-V that results from a traumatic experience.it can result from situations like natural disaster,rape,being hostage,child abuse,combat,or even a serious problem/accident.its symptoms include flashback(feeling like the trauma is happening again),anxiety,depression, intense feelings of distress when reminded of a tragic events, nightmare and sleep disturbance.

Generalize anxiety disorder (GAD)
it is a psychological disorder involving excessive,long lasting worries concerning nonspecific life events,objects and situations.people with GAD may anticipate disaster and may be overly concerned about money,health,family problems,work, deaths and other issues.people with the disorder are not always able to identify the cause of their worry and may exhibit A variety of physical symptoms such as feeling tired,headaches,muscle tension,fidgeting,vomiting,diarrhea,trembling,hard breathing,poor sleeping,sweating and rashes.
Duration:6 months or longer 

obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
It is an anxiety disorder in which people experience recurring,unwanted thought,ideas or sensation(obsessions) that make them feel driven to do something repetitive ly(compulsion). The repetitive behaviours such as consistently checking of car doors after locking it or to check if iron I'd unplugged.it is a normal thing to do,but if you are suffering from this disease OCD behaviours become so consuming that they start interfering with your daily life.
It can also be defined as involuntary thoughts,images or impulses that occurs over and over again in your mind.you might be tired of having this ideas,but yet you are unable to prevent it.OCD are often disturbing and distracting.
